Based in Singapore, Daria Larionova brings a unique artistic perspective shaped by her journey from Siberia in Russia to the UK, Spain, Canada, Australia, and finally, Singapore. Born and raised in Buryatia — a land of sweeping landscapes and artistic traditions rooted in Buddhism — she developed a profound connection to nature and a devotion to using bold red and contrasting palette.

Each canvas she creates is enriched with natural textures that evoke wood grain, malachite, and other elements, grounding her art in a tactile, sensory experience. The vivid reds in her paintings serve as a visual pulse, symbolising the energy driving us — a reminder of life’s intensity and interconnectedness to outer forces.

In Daria’s current collection, which she began in Singapore in August 2024, she features a female black figure navigating abstract landscapes evoking different scenes or places the figure visits, representing the dynamic experiences and environments she encounters. Throughout the paintings in this collection, the artist explores the protagonist’s transcendent creation, arrival and exploration, inviting viewers to follow her journey and connect with their own. The figure is accompanied by two ethereal, haze-like fates which are meant to guide her path and offer a sense of friendly companionship as she exercises her free will in choosing where to go next. The red in the paintings represents energy acquired from an otherworldly realm during the creation. It serves as a life force, an electric charge that energises her as she makes her journey.

For Daria, painting is an immersive, almost performative journey, with the act of creation holding as much fulfilment as the final piece itself.
